Did She Get Some Work Done?

Published: January 27, 2025

Yep! You got that right!

OIC just got a facelift, and we’re happy to re-introduce ourselves.

We’re still the same OIC in many ways, but a little work now & again never hurts anyone.
Quips aside, OIC has undergone quite a lot of work over the last two years and it’s time for the outside to match the growth & changes we’ve made internally.

So what’s changed?

You mean asides from this beautiful new website?

If you’re new here, or a non member, you may be unaware of the structural and organizational changes that have taken place over the last couple years. Many of our founding members had moved out of the industry, and while we always celebrate the continuing journey of our fellow members, this sadly left OIC with a skeleton crew to manage the day-to-day operations.

But like any good underdog, in an unconventional industry, we’ve pulled ourselves up by the stockings and got to work, reorganizing, rebuilding our community, and endeavoring to do things even better than before. We recognize that no one’s perfect, and that goes for OIC as well. Which is why we have made a concerted effort to acknowledge our shortcomings as a collective and strive to do more for Ottawa’s Sex Worker community as a whole.

How are we putting in the work?

OIC is building bridges to close the gap that has for a long time left non-members feeling excluded, and without access to resources or community, by having an open relationship with CORAS.

CORAS is a not for profit charity and sex workers advocacy organization founded in 2024 by Daisy May. It’s goal is to support Sex Workers across the spectrum; from street based to indoors, online only workers, dancers and more. So long as you’re a Sex Worker, there is no barrier to entry in order to join the CORAS community.

OIC is proud to be working alongside CORAS to support them in whatever ways we can, and vice versa. We hope that through this initiative we will be able to support even more Sex Workers beyond our Independent Collective, and give back to the community that has given so much to us.
In the near future,we hope to organize our first joint industry social, joint fundraising initiatives as well as support CORAS in their current fundraisers and events.
